City Parking
It seems that no matter what discussion comes up about the Square, parking is the consensus problem. I have heard talk of a By Pass for as long as I can remember. It seems that we might be getting closer to actually achieving this long term project, but then again, people thought that many years ago as well.
I see merit in the By Pass project. While it may inconvenience some, it should be a positive factor for the traffic flow around the Square. By passing the bigger trucks and traffic that doesn’t need downtown Salem, the traffic flow should be lighter and even without additional parking, parking and getting out of parking spots on the square should be much easier. I am hopeful that we can see the By Pass project proceed as planned for 2009.
Finding additional parking for the square will still be a priority and city officials should be open to new options.
